Altria Launches e-Cigs: Mark Ten Electronic Cigarettes

Soon Altria (previously called Philip Morris Companies Inc.) - the major tobacco company who produces Marlboro will launch their own electronic cigarettes, it is expected this summer and they will be called “MARK TEN”. How it will affect the e-cigarette industry? How big a competitor Altria will be to NJOY, blu eCigs and V2Cigs?

Big Tobacco in Vapor game

First of all, personally I don’t like that tobacco companies are entering electronic cigarettes industry. There are too many risk factors that could play out bad for e-cig companies.

There are three varieties what they can do with their own e-cigs to affect marketplace. Option 1 – they could really mess up the industry with poor quality e-cigarettes. Option 2 – Atria could dictate the rules of electronic cigarettes industry, we all know that tobacco companies have strong lobby in US Senate and FDA. By that I mean they could slowly destroy electronic cigarettes. Option 3 – is most optimistic version – hopefully tobacco giant Altria is seeing big potential in electronic cigarettes and produce high quality product which they will promote with all possible methods (they have lots of money to spend on e-cigs).

You will be surprised, but NJOY CEO, Craig Weiss said: “We welcome the competition.” NJOY doesn’t worry about Altria entering the e-Cig market because they own 40% of US electronic cigarette market.

Electronic cigarette maker Njoy Inc. has raised $75 million in financing from investors including Napster founder and entrepreneur Sean Parker and Homewood Capital principal Douglas Teitelbaum to be used for marketing, clinical trials, research and development, and international expansion. Musician Bruno Mars also has invested the company whose Njoy King disposable e-cigarettes are available in more than 60,000 retail stores.

Like other tobacco companies, Altria also is focusing on cigarette alternatives for future sales growth because the decline in cigarette smoking is expected to continue.

Smoking The Competition

Let’s see how the eCigs industry will change with major tobacco companies are entering the market and how this move will affect it. Hopefully NJOY and other electronic cigarette companies will smoke the competition.

Altria already owns Green Smoke and they are the best ones out there. Don’t mess around, just buy Green Smokes and throw the cancer sticks away forever like I did.

Smoke both electronic and your regular smokes for a while, then throw the cancer sticks away forever. I did after fifty years of ‘em.

“Hopefully NJOY and other electronic cigarette companies will smoke the competition”. You obviously know very little about the marketing expertise of Altria, and more specifically, Philip Morris, U.S.A. I worked for them for 30 yrs., eleven management positions. Mark Ten will be extremely successful. HINT: Observe their dominate presence at retail.

Ron M, thank you for your opinion, I really value it. I know how well they do marketing, but that won’t make a great product.
As a vaper I hope big-tobacco won’t affect e-cig market in negative way.

I tend to agree with you. The other e’cig brands are on the back shelf behind the junk collecting dust and the Mark Ten display is right in the FRONT ROW !
